Rockhampton ‘Powering Up’ finalises workshop series

Some 20 First Nations leaders from Queensland attended the third in our series of ‘Powering Up’ workshops held in Rockhampton on 14-15 May 2025.

Hosted in partnership with the First Nations Clean Energy Network and Clean Energy Council, the workshops brought together First Nations in clean energy development hot spots to discuss the opportunities and barriers in the clean energy transition, and the solutions.

Karrina Nolan, Chair of the First Nations Clean Energy Network says for First Nations to gain benefit in this transition - we need to feel it.

“Part of our job is articulating back to industry and government what we need and what we expect from the transition.

“This is an opportunity. Both industry and government realise they can’t do the transition without us.”

Workshop participants were asked, “What does it look like for our communities to be resourced, for our communities to benefit at a household level, and for us to have equity and be the proponents, instead of passive recipients?”

With a government focus on reducing emissions, “this renewable energy transition is the time for us to think about what we want in our community”.

Thanks to all the participants who attended our Queensland 'Powering Up' workshop, including employees on renewable energy developments, cultural leaders, business owners across the supply chain, community leaders, and government representatives.
