New exclusive update for Network Members out today

It’s been a busy month!

We’ve been forward planning, crafting key member capacity building events for the short and longer term.

Our member update provides an overview of what we’ve been up to, and what our members can get involved in as we transition to clean energy.

It has key dates for events members can attend, finance and funding opportunities around the country to assist in your clean energy journey, and much much more.

Here’s a snapshot:

Register now for First Nations Clean Energy Symposium

Let’s come together to drive real change in the clean energy transition - centering First Nations leadership, rights, and self-determination.

All First Nations Members can now register your interest in attending our third First Nations Clean Energy Symposium scheduled for 14-15 August 2025.

Register for Powering Up in Geraldton, Western Australia

For First Nations Members in Western Australia, register now to attend our Powering Up regional workshop in Geraldton happening on 26-27 March.

There, we'll unpack the basics of renewable energy, explore its meaning for Country and community, and discuss the opportunities and challenges that come with it.

We’ll share workshop dates for other locations soon.

Attend a focus group in Queensland

The First Nations Clean Energy Network is working with partners on a program to identify and test effective models for community (co-)ownership and / or investment, provide practical guidance and develop policy recommendations to support community shared ownership in Queensland.

First Nations are invited to join a focus group on 19 March (register here) or 26 March (register here) to identify avenues, opportunities and challenges of different possible models of shared ownership.

This is an opportunity to share your insights, concerns and ideas about how First Nations can play a greater role in Queensland’s renewable energy transition as well as learn more about community shared ownership and investment opportunities.

Getting out and about

The Network's Director, Community Engagement, Adjunct Professor Sandra Creamer AM, participated in Energy Consumers Australia's Breaking Barriers panel in Sydney, which included a discussion about how First Nations policy and advocacy and community-led projects are shaping energy futures.

Network staff have also recently participated in a number of events with communities, including a workshop with the Central Land Council in Mparntwe.

Submissions to government

In our policy/advocacy arm, we wrote submissions teasing out key issues impacting First Nations in Northern Australia’s Inquiry into Energy, Food and Water Security, Queensland’s Draft Renewables Regulatory Framework and the Australian Law Reform Commission’s review of the Future Acts Regime.
