First Nations Clean Energy Network steering group member Professor Robynne Quiggin has become an inaugural Board member of the Net Zero Economy Authority.
Robynne is a member of the Wiradjuri nation of central western New South Wales. She is also UTS's Pro Vice-Chancellor (Indigenous Leadership and Engagement) and Executive Director, Jumbunna Institute for Indigenous Education and Research.
The Network extends its congratulations to Robynne for being selected as a Board member of the Net Zero Economy Authority.
Guided by the new Net Zero Economy Authority Act 2004, the Net Zero Economy Authority aims to ensure a positive economic transformation as the clean energy transition unfolds by supporting First Nations people to effectively participate in, and benefit from, Australia’s transition to a net zero emissions economy — a powerful precedent for similarly ensuring First Nations participation and benefit was specifically included in the government's Future Made in Australia package.
The Net Zero Economy Authority will focus on people, community and investment supports, including worker transitions, transformative regional supports and projects, and facilitating investment in new and decarbonised industries in the regions of:
- Collie, Western Australia
- Gladstone, Central Queensland
- Hunter, New South Wales
- Latrobe Valley, Victoria
- Pilbara, Western Australia
- Upper Spencer Gulf, South Australia.
