How is electricity measured?

Answer

The size of energy projects are usually measured in kilowatts, megawatts or gigawatts.

A watt is a unit of power.

One megawatt (MW) = 1,000 kilowatts (KW) = 1,000,000 watts.

Megawatts are bigger than kilowatts.

The Gansu Wind Farm in China was the largest wind farm in the world in 2020, with a target capacity of 20,000 megawatts (MW).

The Bhadla Solar Park in India was the largest solar power plant in the world in 2023, covering an area of 56 square kilometers with a total installed capacity of 2,245 megawatts (MW).
