Having partnerships with First Nations groups de-risks energy projects

Today First Nations Australian and Canadian clean energy leaders met with the Australian government's Assistant Minister for Climate Change and Energy, Senator Jenny McAllister.

Australia's First Nations Clean Energy Network and Canada's Indigenous Clean Energy spoke to the Senator at Parliament House, Canberra about fundamental differences between Australia's and Canada's clean energy transition.

The Senator heard how over 20% of Canada's clean energy infrastructure projects are owned or co-owned by Indigenous people, with that figure soon expected to be over 25%.

In Australia there are none.

The value of these projects with Indigenous ownership is the "project design is better" which means they are "cheaper", and "they come online earlier".

In sum, having partnerships with First Nations groups de-risks energy projects.
