It’s hot in Tennant Creek, and power is expensive. Senior Warumungu Traditional Owner, Norman Jupurrurla Frank, has spearheaded a demonstration study on the difficulties of integrating rooftop solar with pre-payment meters in town camps. Original Power helped Norman to install solar panels on the roof of his council-owned one-story, three-bedroom home. With ample sun in Tennant Creek, this should be a success story, but what was highlighted are the structural and regulatory barriers to harnessing solar power for good. These are the kind of barriers which the Network is set to address.
