Name of program: Aboriginal Responsive Skilling Grants NT

Who is it for: 

  • registered or incorporated community organisations

What is the aim of the funding?

  • to assist Aboriginal Territorians to start and stay in jobs

Who's funding it? NT Government

Conditions:

  • Funding to cover training costs.
  • Community organisations must be a registered business or an incorporated body and must ensure people being trained are Aboriginal Territorians living in the NT
  • The proposed training will provide people with the knowledge and skills to work on their community projects, and should have some or all of the following features:
    • addresses current and future employment needs of communities
    • demonstrated community support
    • quality, innovative training and appropriate techniques that meet the needs of Indigenous communities
    • is linked to a strategic plan – e.g. business plan, community plan, organisational plan or training plan.
  • The training must be completed by the end of the calendar year.

Name of program: Aboriginal Workforce Grants Program

Who is it for: 

  • Aboriginal corporations
  • not-for-profit organisations
  • private businesses
  • industry bodies
  • other incorporated organisations

What is the aim of the funding?

  • to assist and support employment of Aboriginal people

Who's funding it? NT Government

Conditions:

  • To be eligible for funding, your project must include elements such as:

    • structured mentoring through a professional service for career development
    • workforce development - for example, support to carry out workplace practices, job design or tutoring
    • wraparound services including:
      • on-site mentoring and structured workplace support
      • transport and/or accommodation where there is no alternative.

Name of program: Territory Infrastructure Loans

Who’s it for?

  • First Nations businesses 

What’s on offer?

  • finance, matched by a privately funded co-contribution (excluding grant funding), to de-risk project opportunities, bring forward private investment and deliver projects to final investment.

Who's funding it? Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility (NAIF)

Conditions: 

  • Loans may be made up to $10 million
  • Businesses must have a significant presence in the Territory, with high growth and job creation potential
  • Applications must demonstrate experience, technical expertise and financial capacity to deliver the project within the timeframe; and provide an overview of how they propose to provide opportunities and local suppliers and Aboriginal Territorians.

Name of program: Donations

Who is it for: 

  • Aboriginal people – especially young people – who are disadvantaged and unable to fully participate in sporting, educational, cultural and similar activities
  • community groups who provide welfare/health services to Aboriginal people
  • Peak bodies
  • new job roles that provide training, education, access to employment, etc

Who's funding it? Centrecorp Foundation

Conditions: 

  • applicants must be identified as Aboriginal from the Central Land Council Region with funding primarily directed to benefit Aboriginal people of Central Australia
  • some contribution towards the cost (whether in cash or kind) is expected of the applicant
  • funding available for (in brief):
    • Relief of demonstrated situations of suffering and hardship
    • Access to education for youth – sponsorship of selected individuals to attend schools
    • Support for tertiary education - the Board may consider costs of living away from home costs, textbooks and other ancillary costs. University or higher education fees which are covered by HECS will not be funded.
    • Education support – e.g. creation of Girls Rooms at local high schools
    • Health – e.g. community health education
    • Transport – e.g. vehicles for other than disable purposes
    • Support for IT equipment usually limited to $1,000
  • funding will not be provided to establish or support commercial ventures

Name of program: Community Benefit Fund: minor community grants

Who is it for: 

  • NT based non-profit community organisations
  • NT regional councils

What’s it for? aims to improve the capacity of not-for-profit organisations to provide services, leisure activities and opportunities

Who's funding it? Department of Tourism and Hospitality, NT Government

Conditions: 

  • applications are prioritised if:

    • they are from organisations with no paid positions (volunteer based)
    • they will provide a tangible ongoing community benefit beyond the period of the grant funding
    • they will provide a particular benefit to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Territorians
    • they will enhance the preservation of culture and heritage in the Territory.

Who is it for: 

  • for people who own an electric vehicle (EV)

What’s it for?

  •  to buy and install a charger at your household or business

Name of program: Aboriginal Business Development Program

Who is it for: 

  • First Nations people who are Northern Territory residents

Who's funding it? NT Government

Conditions:

  • You get one-on-one support from a small business champion
  • To be eligible, you must:
    • be a resident of the NT
    • have a business or proposed business that is at least 50% Aboriginal owned and operated and registered in the NT.

Name of program: Priority Sector Collaboration Grants

What’s it for?

  • may offer up to 50% matched funding to consortia (3 or more businesses) to progress sector-wide initiatives to advance local industry capability, innovation and business development in priority sectors.

Who is it for: 

  • First Nations businesses

  • Energy bill relief (households) - households can get assistance in paying energy bills
  • Energy Bill Relief (small business) - small businesses can get assistance in paying energy bills
  • Medical Support Allowance - available to NT Concession Scheme members who have exceeded the concession cap ($800 for water and $1200 for electricity) and have, or have a dependent that has, a medical condition that directly impacts the member’s household’s electricity and/or water consumption
  • NT Concession Scheme - provides concessions on a range of essential goods and services - including electricity - to help with expenses

Name of program: Solar for Multi Dwellings Grant Scheme

What is it for: 

  • get up to $7,500 per dwelling to cover up to 50% of the total installation costs for:

    • a shared solar PV system
    • solar sharing technology
    • smart meters, and
    • battery storage systems.

Who is it for: 

  • First Nations unit management corporations in line with:
    • the Unit Titles Act 1975
    • the Unit Title Schemes Act 2009
  • Other shared property management entity

Who's funding it?

  • NT Government’s Department of Mining and Energy, and funded by the Australian Government through its Community Solar Banks Program

Conditions:

  • Where there is no title to common property, the application should be made by the owners of the Dwellings jointly.
  • The works must supply power to a minimum of two Dwellings
  • The works and the finally completed system must be situated on common property (that is, on parts of the Property owned by the Management Entity (or owners collectively), not on parts of the Property that constitute individually owned Dwellings.
  • Costs and benefits of the installation must be equitably shared among Participating Dwellings

Name of program: Territory Infrastructure Loans

What is it for: 

  • tangible growth capital expenditure
  • to support the development and expansion of enabling infrastructure, employment and economic growth and improved Indigenous outcomes, to produce benefits to the broader economy and community, including employment opportunities, regional income, diversifying and/or deepening industry capabilities, business for local suppliers, and Indigenous employment opportunities.

Who's funding it? Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility (NAIF)

Conditions: 

  • Loans may be made up to $10 million
  • Each project must have obtained all relevant regulatory, environmental and Native Title approvals prior to release of funds.
  • Eligible Borrowers are required to support and develop the Territory Aboriginal workforce and Aboriginal businesses (to the scale of their funding application), through:
    • Delivery of Cultural Capability Training to all staff who are directly employed for more than 3 months.
    • Reporting every 6 months 
    • Ensure engagement between Borrowers and Aboriginal employment agencies and related service provided including workshop sessions.
    • Engage Territory Indigenous businesses in their Territory service and supply chains.
    • Undertake a range of initiatives, depending on the scale of their funding application as follows:
      • Develop or continue to implement a Reconciliation Action Plan.
      • Contract an Aboriginal business(es) to deliver part or all of the work.
      • Directly employ Aboriginal staff, trainees and/or apprentices for a minimum of 3 months.
      • Provide training support, scholarships or other investment in training/education opportunities to Aboriginal people, including staff employed by the Applicant or by contractors/sub-contractors.
      • Other initiatives supported or recommended by Aboriginal communities in the areas the Applicant is working in, including initiatives supporting community development, cultural heritage management, and/or caring for country activities etc.
