First Nations Canadians and Australians meet with the Minister

Today First Nations Australian and Canadian clean energy advocates met with Australia's Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen.

Leaders from Canada's Indigenous Clean Energy joined the First Nations Clean Energy Network, the National Native Title Council and the Federation of Victorian Traditional Owner Corporations on the visit to remind the Minister the clean energy transition can only happen in partnership with First Nations.

The Minister was interested to learn that Indigenous people are the second largest asset owners of clean energy infrastructure in Canada.

He heard from our Canadian cousins that projects are simply better with First Nations ownership - risk is reduced, access to capital is cheaper and projects are more successful, delivering better outcomes for local communities through jobs and opportunities.

We will be talking with the Minister again soon.
