Borroloola is working to design, develop and build its own solar microgrid providing clean energy for residents, families and businesses in the region, to service its community of over 1,300 people in the Gulf of Carpentaria.
The project will provide energy security, reduce the high cost of electricity and create local training and job opportunities. With support from the Federal Government Regional and Remote Communities Reliability Fund, a feasibility study is underway to design a model to provide solar power to Borroloola and surrounding outstations.
