Director - First Nations Clean Energy Network (Identified)

Original Power’s mission is to build the power, skills, capacity and collective capability of our people to genuinely self determine what happens in our communities and on country. We are a growing organisation with a base in Melbourne and staff working from home across Australia.

The First Nations Clean Energy Network (the Network) was launched in November 2021 and operates under an auspice arrangement with Original Power.

 

The Network is currently seeking Expressions of Interest for a enthusiastic and detail-orientated Director to lead the development of new initiatives to ensure First Nations communities share in the benefits of the renewables boom. This is an Indigenous identified position.

Key responsibilities of the Director include:

  • Refine and implement strategic direction and associated new initiatives, ensure sustainable growth and development of the network
  • Build and develop a national team to support the growth of the network including recruiting, managing staff and ensuring a cohesive and efficient working environment regardless of location
  • Work with relevant stakeholders and communities to develop initiatives and capacity related to clean energy, including removing barriers to demonstration projects
  • Collaborate with and work alongside the Director, Policy and Engagement to monitor relevant policy and clean energy sector developments (state and national)
  • Coordinate  the First Nations Clean Energy Network Steering Group, including preparing briefing papers and updates for the group members
  • Manage and develop new  partnerships with key stakeholders  in government, community and other organisations for the purposes of communication, advocacy and engagement activities
  • Ensuring community aspirations and priorities are met and focused on
  • Representing the Network and Original Power in a range of areas, including  key stakeholder meetings including government, communities, media and private sector
  • Implementing systems and processes that ensure transparency and clarity relating to the network.

 

Selection Criteria

Experience - Required

  1. At least three - five years' experience in high level strategic and organisational management 
  2. Strategic leadership  skills and knowledge of specialist areas of policy such as climate change, community engagement, renewable energy, Native title, policy and legal frameworks relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander land management and ownership or cultural heritage 
  3. High level of cultural knowledge with experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and organisations
  4. Excellent communication skills with proven ability to generate high quality research-based content on deadline for a range of audiences
  5. Excellent organisational  skills including time management  and coordination of activities involving a wide range of people 

Qualifications & Skills - Highly Desirable

  1. Experience working in community political and/or social movement campaigns
  2. Familiarity with budget management, corporate governance, employment policies and procedures relevant to a small organisation.
